- “Secret Space” “There are probably 10 episodes that I’ve watched on YouTube. It’s all about the secrets of space—UFOs and conspiracy theories. My friend Kenneth recommended it to me. It’s the only thing I’ve ever watched that made me tell someone to shut up. It’s kind of a silly deal. I don’t believe much of it, but it’s good to know that some people do. One of the episodes is about a NASA mission that’s witness to a UFO superwar with plasma rays flying everywhere.”
- “Beakman’s World” (Spanish version on Univision) “I stumbled across it one morning. I hadn’t seen it in like 15 years. I only saw one episode, but now I’m constantly searching for it. It has a colorful cast of characters and a lot of wild hand gestures influenced by hip-hop. I was in Europe this fall and kind of felt like an idiot for not knowing a second language.”
- “Squidbillies” “I used to watch it with my pals. At that point in our young adult lives, it just really hit the spot. It’s a family of hillbilly squids. Every character looks like it’s drawn by a completely different artist. It’s definitely been a positive influence. It gives me hope, I guess.”
Rae Hahn, rocker of The Casbah and Nice Cafe and survivor of three natural disasters
Currently reading: “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith “It follows the life of a young girl growing up in poverty in Brooklyn. My sister-in-law recommended it to me. Our lives are both complicated so she thought I should enjoy the complications of a different time period. I think it makes me appreciate what you learn from tough times.”
One book everyone should read: “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith “I was a nanny and it always came in handy to make the kids laugh. Me too, because I’m a big goof troop and I like to do voices. There’s no moral other than getting your daily chuckles in.”
