Description: The difference between the great psychedelic throwback bands and the bad ones is a vast canyon. Listen to The Black Hollies for 30 seconds and you'll know you're on the right side. The New Jersey foursome exhibits straight skill on the Nuggets tip, masterfully channeling the chops and tremelo-pedal squall of bands like Love and The Dukes of Stratosphear. While the Hollies' sensibility is undeniably retro, it fits comfortably beside modern mods like The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes. The buzzworthy group (which features three former members of Rye Coalition) is touring to support its kaleidoscopic sophomore LP "Casting Shadows."
